LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
You go to a beautiful place, the view is amazing. So you decide to take your camera out, and take a shot. But the result is not the same as what you see. Although it look simple, landscape photography can be tricky. Here is a list of tips to improve landscape photography:
- Use Wide Angle Lens: Your eyes can see wider than a normal photography lens. To capture what you eyes are seeing, wide angle lens produce nearly a view what your eyes can see. However, extreme wide angle lens also produce distortion that sometime is annoying, but sometime add the dramatic effect to the picture.

Foreground: Wide angle lens are best used when you get close up to your subject. By moving closer to the subject with wide angle lens you can capture the wide background and the detail of the subject.

Rule of third: The most well-known rule for photography. Rule of third can be used with any type of photography.

Get Low and High: Taking photo from the human eye level and placing the horizon dead center produce boring photos. So you can get really low or high to capture from another perspective. As for deciding to get the horizon low or high on the frame, you look at the sky, if it look interesting you should compose your horizon lower, if it look boring you can compose your shot upper horizon. Use combination with rule of third to decide where the horizon should be.

Beware of tilted horizon: Most of my mistakes in landscape photography is the tilted horizon. Working so hard with other composition rules, but come up with the image with tilted horizon that make it almost useless. Cropping take away much of the frame.
Finally breaking the rule! photography is fun when we find the way to break rule without ruining the photos. So shoot more!
